Cheesy Garlic Breadsticks

Soft, doughy, garlicky, and oozing with cheesy goodness, these breadsticks are the ultimate comfort food. Perfect as a side dish or a snack, they’re quick to make and absolutely irresistible fresh out of the oven!


Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 1½ cups + 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp dry instant yeast
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, cubed (room temperature)
  • ½ tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 cup lukewarm milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Lukewarm water (as needed for kneading)
  • Cornmeal (for dusting)

For the Topping:

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 tsp Italian herb seasoning
  • 1⅓ cups mozzarella cheese, grated
  • ½ cup parmesan cheese, grated
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • A handful of fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

1. Prepare the Dough

  1. In a medium bowl, mix the lukewarm milk, yeast, 2 tbsp of flour, and sugar. Let it rest for 10 minutes until foamy and bubbly.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the remaining flour and cubed butter. Mix with a fork or hands until the texture resembles coarse sand.
  3. Add salt to the flour mixture and mix well.
  4. Pour in the yeast mixture and knead. Gradually add lukewarm water as needed to form a soft, smooth dough.
  5. Place the dough in a clean bowl, drizzle with olive oil, and coat it completely.
  6. Cover with a kitchen towel and let it rest for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

2. Prepare the Garlic Butter

  1. In a small bowl, mix garlic, softened butter, Italian herb seasoning, salt, and pepper. Set aside.

3. Roll and Shape the Dough

  1. Dust a baking sheet with cornmeal.
  2. Transfer the risen dough to a floured surface and knead for 5-8 minutes until smooth.
  3. Roll out the dough into a rectangle about 1-inch thick and place it on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Gently press the dough with your fingers to spread it evenly.
  5. Cover with a kitchen towel and let it rest for 15-20 minutes.
